I'm not trying to take away from anything here. But, I think it's a little disrespectful for someone who is doing nothing except being a mother to their kids with being a single mom. I left the church about 7 years ago. But still wasn't awake as I am now. I wanted to get re baptized and they wouldn't let me until I showed them my divorce papers. Then my hubby now wanted to get baptized and he tried for the last 6 years, but they wouldn't let him get baptized because he didn't believe in Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. That crushed my hubby because he desperately wanted to get baptized. He wanted a new life. The bishop kept talking about paperwork and steps and rules. And I knew the LDS church and other organized religions were false. Who are we to tell someone they aren't ready for baptism or not. How can we place a Freemason man over Jesus? Over Jesus? And LDS says that Jesus is a brother, and not God. Wow. God had our back and wouldn't let us get baptized. We went through a huge spiritual battle but found a wonderful Christian church full of people who just follow God. And they baptized us, taught us how to fight in the spirit and we came back to God, the right way. And saved our marriage. And now we both serve God together. It took time to deconstruct from the Mormon ideas. I lost a lot of friends. But I gained God.

Have to agree, AA has some unhealthy traits, but there are a lot of 12 step programs that aren't as shaming as AA. Take for instance, Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families. No one expects you to talk about anything except what you want to share.

I think Kevin is both a victim and a perpetrator which is always difficult to handle I think especially in a story like this where we want black & white roles to pit against each other. I think he participated in and allowed neglect & abuse of his kids, even prior to when Jodi became really involved in the 2020s. I think he was also abused and manipulated by Jodi & Ruby through her "therapy" and being pushed out of the family. Its difficult, because we want to have sympathy for him as a victim but he also is at least partially responsible for the abuse of his kids and I worry about him getting custody of them again. Its a situation that requires nuance.

I am 35 and for the first time I have a job that is offering benefits and a retirement account with contribution, matching. I lived my whole life, expecting to be a stay at home mom but my nature is too ambitious to settle without an education. And it’s not until my religious deconstruction that I realize what I’ve been fighting against and how unfair it is. I wish I had taken a job in my single years that would’ve provided me the opportunity to have financial security as a young woman and have saved money for my own goals. I always worked in human services because that would help me be a better mom.

This is my memory of same sex marriage in California… About 1998-99 Gavin Newsome, mayor of San Francisco issued marriage licenses to same sex couples until it was stopped by lawsuits, I recall it lasting around 30 days. In 2000, there was a push to modify the CA state constitution by adding the statement “Marriage is between one man and one woman.” This was sponsored by the usual suspects. The day a high councilman came into priesthood meeting and organized a political campaign for this was the last day I participated in TSCC. This was added to the state constitution, btw. A couple of years later the CA Supreme Court said the statement was unconstitutional and it was thrown out. Maybe 2004? In 2008, Prop 8 was passed and later thrown out by the CA Supreme Court. Same sex marriage was legalized a little later.
